Before I left Chicago to check out small town rural life I had been an active photographer some years. Much of that happened in Chicago where I worked on many projects during my 12 years there. But I always felt attracted to the grim beauty of the post industrial world, the rust belt, that was slowly being cleaned up. And being from the Southwest it was a new and invigorating experience to see these decaying beasts .
I genuinely enjoyed getting up at the crack of dawn and heading out to the nether-lands of Chicago Industrial World. It could be hard to get good shots in a lot of these places, typically because the steel companies weren’t too keen on letting photographers trek about their lots. So mostly I had to stick to the outer perimeter or maybe venture close in , get the photo, and then get out.
At any rate here’s a handful of that imagery.
